The project for the hot water pipeline from Dukovany to Brno continues to attract public attention. Most recently, Brno’s mayor Markéta Vaňková discussed the project on Czech Television’s Regional News (Události v regionech).
The main topic? How preparations are progressing and how the city is coordinating efforts with its partners.
The mayor confirmed that the project is moving forward as planned. Coordination is primarily taking place between the Teplárny Brno municipal company and the energy group ČEZ. There is currently no need for direct negotiations with the Korean company KHNP, which is involved in constructing a new reactor unit at the Dukovany power plant. However, the two projects are logically interconnected and are being carefully aligned.
Mayor Vaňková also updated viewers on the ongoing property rights settlement process, which began this spring. Most of the pipeline will be installed through easements, eliminating the need to purchase land. The city has received largely positive feedback from landowners and users of agricultural land, and Teplárny Brno is working with them to find solutions that won’t disrupt agricultural production.
"We are still at the beginning, but the timeline is realistic. So far, everything is going according to plan," said Mayor Vaňková.
Her appearance on national television helped raise public awareness about this key project, which is expected to significantly reduce emissions, improve Brno’s energy self-sufficiency, and support the city’s broader climate goals.
