The planned construction of the hot pipeline from the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant to Brno has its ambassadors. Experts from the energy, industry, and security sectors are standing by one of the largest energy projects in the history of the Czech Republic. The eight-member team will be in charge of supervising the preparation of certain documents and opinions, in addition to the substantive and professional communication of the project.
"The role of these ambassadors is irreplaceable. The construction of the hot pipeline is so extraordinary in its scope and importance that it requires expert consultation with people who have long experience with similar projects. The experts approached are leaders in their fields, and I therefore very much appreciate their willingness to get involved and become our advisors in such a demanding and strategic project," says Brno Mayor Markéta Vaňková.
"The individual ambassadors we have approached will be continuously involved in all stages of the project's preparation and implementation. Already during the autumn, we will consult with them on a number of partial actions that we are planning for next year. All of them are a guarantee that the construction of the hot water pipeline will be under highly professional supervision," says Petr Fajmon, General Director of Teplarna Brno, the main investor of the hot water pipeline.
The role of the ambassadors is conceived as strategic advisors to the Board of Directors of Teplarna Brno. In case the heat plants need to involve the ambassador in the development of the document, he or she can actively intervene in the preparation itself.
"Fundamental and strategic decisions are the responsibility of Teplárny Brno. Our task is to clearly explain all the parameters of the project and especially the benefits it has not only for Brno but also for the Czech Republic. We want to advise on the preparation of all important parts of the project within our competencies and capabilities," explains one of the ambassadors, Marcel Kalakaj, a former MERO board member responsible for financial management, business planning, ICT, and asset management.
The Dukovany to Brno heat pipeline project is intended to ensure a reliable heat supply and significantly reduce the city's dependence on gas. The length of the pipeline will be approximately 42 kilometers. The route of the pipeline will lead outside the built-up areas of the municipalities. The hot water pipeline will also include a 1,100-metre-long tunnel under the Bučín hill near Tetčice, which is part of the Bobrava Nature Park. The construction of the hot pipeline is scheduled to begin around the turn of 2025 and 2026, and construction work will take at least four years. In addition to Teplárny Brno, ČEZ, the owner of the Dukovany power plant, is also counting on the necessary investment.
