The latest issue of Hospodářské noviny features an interview with Minister of the Environment Petr Hladík, discussing the heat pipeline project from the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant to the city of Brno. According to him, the project not only makes economic sense but is also crucial for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and decreasing reliance on fossil fuels.
The article highlights the project's main benefits, especially the reduction of CO₂ emissions, strengthening energy independence, and stabilizing heating prices in Brno. By 2030, approximately 42 kilometers of pipeline are planned to be built, bringing residual heat from electricity production at the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant to the city. This otherwise unused heat will be utilized in district heating for hundreds of thousands of households.
The heat pipeline project is being developed by Teplárny Brno in cooperation with ČEZ, a.s., and other partners. Teplárny Brno will also be responsible for distributing the heat to end users within the city's district heating network.
The publication in Hospodářské noviny confirms that the Dukovany heat pipeline is not just a regional project, but a significant step in the national debate on the future of heating and the energy self-sufficiency of both the city and the country as a whole.
