Teplárny Brno Celebrates 95 Years: History of Energy, a Siemens Steam Turbine, and a Rowing Challenge at Vaňkovka

Brno, September 2025 – Teplárny Brno is celebrating its 95th anniversary this year, and to mark the occasion, it has prepared an exhibition at the Vaňkovka Gallery that bridges the history, present, and future of energy.

The exhibition will run from September 26 to October 14, 2025, and admission is free.

Exploring the Past and Future of Energy

The exhibition at Vaňkovka Gallery will feature a series of information panels detailing the history of Teplárny Brno, key technological milestones, and current projects aimed at achieving sustainable energy.
The exhibition tells the story of Teplárny Brno — from the first wooden steam pipelines to modern charging stations for electric vehicles. Visitors have a unique opportunity to peek behind the curtain and learn how the energy that powers their daily lives is produced. I believe this will help them understand just how important role weve played in the citys life for the past 95 years,” said Jiří Herman, Chairman of the Board of Teplárny Brno.

A Turbine Returns Home

A centerpiece of the exhibition will be a Siemens SST-300 backpressure steam turbine, on loan from the Siemens Energy training center. This type of turbine is still in operation today at Teplárny BrnoČervený mlýn site.
The display also recalls Vaňkovka Gallerys historic connection to the energy industry — steam turbines were once manufactured here before production moved to Olomoucká Street. This makes the turbines return to Vaňkovka a symbolic homecoming for a technology long tied to Brnos industrial heritage.

From Steam Pipelines to Sustainable Energy

Since building its first steam pipelines in 1930, Teplárny Brno has come a long way. Today, it supplies heat to more than 105,000 households, schools, hospitals, and institutions. Over 95 years, the company has undergone major technological transformations — moving from coal to natural gas, preparing to switch to biomass, and developing a strategic hot-water pipeline from Dukovany, which will bring zero-emission heat to Brno.

We are proud to have powered Brno for 95 years. The world is changing — and so is Teplárny Brno. From eight kilometers of steam pipelines, weve grown into a modern company with nearly 300 kilometers of network, bold projects, and a comprehensive energy ecosystem for the entire city. Our goal is to remain a partner Brno can always rely on,” said Petr Fajmon, CEO of Teplárny Brno.

Interactive Charity Challenge

The anniversary exhibition will also feature an interactive charity competition. Visitors can test their fitness on a rowing machine — and help a good cause at the same time. For every kilowatt of energy generated, Teplárny Brno will donate a financial contribution to people in need.

Looking Ahead

The 95th anniversary is not only a moment to reflect on history, but also to show that Teplárny Brno has a clear role in the decades to come. Its mission is to reliably and sustainably supply energy for the entire city, foster modern technologies, and actively contribute to Brnos transition toward a zero-emission future.
